What a wild day! The best sort.

Back in the Coronation Meadow.
We had a visit from a Plantlife botanist and his partner this afternoon and I had the absolute pleasure of showing them the fields. It was wonderful to walk through the fields with someone so knowledgeable and I felt very proud of how Treshnish has blossomed, literally, in the last 23 years.

I find the hawk weeds very difficult but I now know this one is Marsh hawks beard. It was in a damper patch of the Haunn field.
Highlight was the bank of Wood bitter-vetch I photographed yesterday. Today with our visitors, in brilliant mid afternoon sunshine it was again difficult to photograph. So tonight I went back just before sunset and caught the golden hour which accentuated the colours of the plant nicely.

Open Farm Sunday 2018.
About 40 people came.
Farmer gave a short talk at the beginning.
Along the track to the Black Park.
The Moonwort.
A bank of Wood bitter-vetch.
Lots of Fragrant orchids.
Lots of Greater butterfly orchids, just coming to flower.
Many Heath spotted orchids.
Clouds of Pignut.
Dying bluebells.
Burnet rose.
Tufted vetch.
And many many more...

We went back to the Black Park to look at the Wood bitter-vetch again. A sight to be seen.

The Bluebells have been wonderful this year. They are going over now, but looked lovely with the red seed heads of the Sorrel.
This flat topped mound near the Haunn gate caught my drone's eye.

In the field below the house, the knolls covered in Bluebell and Pignut are beginning to clash with the yellows of Buttercup and Yellow rattle spreading across the grassland, interspersed with deep pink of Red clover and the occasional Common or Northern marsh orchid.

Prasad showed us a Panzers Nomad Bee today. In the Black Park. They are sometimes known as 'cuckoo bees' reflecting their 'cleptoparasitic' behaviour. The female will lay her egg in the nest of other species of bee.

The hill park next to the farm building is our 'sacrifice' field. We always think there isn't much flora in there - and then... an explosion of Heath spotted orchids.
