Dancing skies

Words fail me so here are some snapshots from the dancing skies last night here at Treshnish. I wandered in and out with my camera and tripod, in awe of the light show we were being treated to.  It was the most colourful, varied and prolonged display of aurora borealis I have ever seen.

At one point during the course of the evening, I ventured off Treshnish, hoping to get the Croig pier with some good skies but while I was there it was reasonably inactive, though it picked up again when I got home.  Eventually the cold and tiredness pulled me indoors, at about 4am.  The skies were still dancing with light at that time but I needed my bed.

We still have some spaces between now and the end of April, which we are offering a pretty starry Special Offer on - spring season cottages at winter season rates! Please contact us for details by email before trying to book online.

Chalk and cheese

School bus run dog walk, before the sun has fully hit the beach.

The surf is busy with oystercatchers and gulls looking for debris from yesterday's storm, as well as the hoodies.

A meeting in Craignure and on the way home, the swans have returned to their island nesting place.  I have always wanted to photograph them so I thought I could walk along the road but the male was very protective of the female, even at that distance, so I left well alone.

Back to Calgary with the camping gas stove and Farmer's special pancake mixture to have a surprise picnic waiting for Daughter when she got off the bus!  They were delicious, washed down with thermos tea.

The beach has really changed shape again, the edge of the sand where the marram grows on the burn side has been sculpted by the wind and the waves.

The burn has doubled in width.

Coco enjoyed it.

March 9th storm force

The winds were forecast to be storm force 11. We did have a weather station once but it blew away, so we have no way of measuring.  Suffice it to say, it has been pretty windy - sufficient to blow a hay feeder from the top of the wind turbine field, down hill and over 2 fences and the track, into the field beside the Studio.  Thankfully it didn't hit anyone on its way. It is now safely tucked in behind the workshop.
