Tiny islands - holidays day seven

Today we landed on Great Bernera, at Bosta beach. Then after lunch we landed on Little Bernera where I flew the drone.  We moored at Meavaig tied up to the pontoons.  

 

Up the coast in wild seas - holidays day six

 After lunch we made the journey from Scarp up to Reef on Lewis. This was very rough.  But the sun was shining and it was extraordinarily beautiful at the same time as being terrifying. 

We went ashore on Pabbaigh Mhor.   

Offshore day and Scarp - holidays day five

Day 4 we moved from Taransay to Loch Tamnabhaig, the crossing was pretty unpleasant.  

Day 5 We had moored in the calm waters of Loch overnight.  Next day the weather was not conducive for moving out of the loch or for going ashore. We spent the day watching the landscape swirl as the boat spun on the mooring chain. 

Day 6 We moved to Scarp and went ashore in the morning.  It was beautiful and I will add more photographs later. 

 

Taransay - holidays day four

By this time we realised we would not be going to St Kilda.  It was deemed after 2 uncomfortable hours too rough to make it to the Monach Isles.  We settled for Taransay, and it was beautiful. 

From shelter to shelter - holidays day three

From Loch Reasort we moved over the shelter of a sandy bay on the north corner of Scarp.

There is a White tailed eagle nest on this cliff face with a chick in the nest beside it's parent.  We watched it a lot during the evening.

 

From land to sea - holidays day two

Late afternoon, we set off down the west coast of Lewis to the shelter of Loch Reasort.

Next afternoon when the rain had stopped we went ashore.  And explored this settlement.  I flew the drone from the deck of the Cuma after we got back.  Murdo, our skipper, told me that his family moved away from here in the 1640s.  

 

From one island to another - holidays day one

From Glasgow to Ullapool.  Overnight and then to Stornoway. 

On our way to our accommodation via shielings and fanks on the Pentland Road. 

After a comfortable night in a pod we headed to Callanish for breakfast and a wander through the magical stones. 

Then we went to visit some friends before heading to Meavaig to board the MV Cuma.
