The Studio Sitooterie

The biggest job over the winter was the rebuilding/transformation of the old sunroom to the new Sitooterie!  It has huge triple glazed windows, masses of insulation, a lovely tiled floor and a CorTen roof.

We are grateful to John and Arran P for all their hard work, to Steve who did the taping and filling, and to Alan who did the painting.  Arran S and Leen did a great job painting and decorating elsewhere in the Studio, and sealing the floors!

The original sunroom was built in 2000. Farmer and I decided to convert part of the farm steading which had been used as a shed for the Treshnish chickens, so that we could live in it and rent the farmhouse out.   Our new home was simple and small - a kitchen living room with gallery bed space, and a separate bathroom. And an appropriately sized sunroom!  After all it was only for 2 of us...(until the birth of Daughter in September that year).

We soon realised it was a bit small for us and a baby, so we converted the dairy next door in to one big studio space.  (hence the name Studio).  We lived happily there until Daughter was 3 when we moved back into the farmhouse, and turned Studio into a self catering sleeping 4 adults and 2 children.

We have called the new sunroom a Sitooterie because like the sitooteries on Shian and Duill it relies solely on the sun for warmth.  So it is liking sitting outside - but more sheltered, drier and naturally warmer!

It is wonderful to walk past and see guests enjoying it whatever the weather.
